On March 15, 2026 at 14:26 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to the area of W. Belleview Ave. and S. Prince St. for a report of smoke in the area. Multiple callers to 911 reported smoke coming from the storm drainage system along W. Belleview Ave. between S. Prince Street and Federal Blvd. First arriving crews from Station 11 arrived on scene and confirmed smoke coming from several storm drains. Due to the complexity of the incident and the unknown source of the fire within the drainage system, the response was upgraded to a confined space incident. The South Metro Fire Rescue Technical Rescue Team, along with the Hazmat Team responded due to the unknown nature of what was burning. Members of the Technical Rescue Team entered the drainage system running parallel to Belleview Ave. and located the source of the fire approximately 225 feet inside the drainage system. Crews found burning mattresses and pallets, which were brought under control around 16:00 by using a pressurized water fire extinguisher. Crews from Engine 11 then advanced a progressive hose line into the drainage system to extinguish any remaining hot spots. There were no injuries reported.
