In the evening of Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center dispatched Security Fire Department and other agencies from the auto-aid group, South Group, to the 6000 block of Defore Ave in Widefield for a residential structure fire. While enroute units observed a smoke column coming from the area and confirmed a working fire. On scene, crews faced a home well involved in fire with it spreading to the next door home. Firefighters began offensive fire operations to prevent further spread of the fire. They were quickly able to knock down the main body of fire and ensure all occupants have been evacuated from both homes. No injures were reported, but firefighters safely rescued a dog from one of the homes. The fire is currently under investigation. Additional information provided by the Security Fire Department.

Agencies on scene:

Fort Carson Fire & Emergency Services, Fountain Fire Department, Hanover Fire Department, Security Fire Department, & El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
