Cobb Lake 2nd Alarm

At 12:03 on March 13th, 2012 Poudre Fire Authority responded to a report of a ditch burn out of control in the area of Larimer County Rd. 3 & Larimer County Rd. 56 near Cobb Lake State Wildlife Area. Engine 6 arrived to a wind driven wildland fire threatening structures and upgraded the response to a 2nd alarm. An emergency notification system message was sent out to residents within a one mile radius of the incident to be prepared to evacuate. With a reported humidity of 9% and winds of 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 in the area firefighters worked diligently to protect homes in the area. Several structures were threatened but none were damaged or destroyed. Some evacuations did take place but firefighters were able to contain the fire at around 15:00. It is estimated that approximately 300 acres burned. Crews on scene conducted mop up operations for several hours. Additional information provided by Poudre Fire Authority.
