At 11:58 on May 4th, 2012 Poudre Fire Authority responded for a report of a large haystack fire threatening multiple structures at 5200 N. Taft Rd. in LaPorte. Engine 7 arrived to find an approximate 25 x 75 stack of hay and straw well involved in fire. The property owners were attempting to keep the flames from spreading into grain silos plus additional hay and straw by spraying water and using tractors to separate the materials. Firefighters immediately called for additional water tenders with access to the closest fire hydrant was approximately one mile away, also due to the high temperatures, wind and low humidity, and concerned about spot fires. About an hour into the incident a couple of spot fires were quickly extinguished within 100 yards to the north of the main fire.  Crews continued to work into the evening.
