West Metro Interface Fire

Just after 14:00 on November 13th, 2013 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported vegetation fire in the area of W. Bowles Ave. & Simms St. District 3 confirmed smoke in the air from the Hogback, and dispatch was receiving multiple 911 calls, with some callers reporting structures on fire, prompting an upgrade to a 2nd alarm interface fire.  Engine 12 arrived to a 1 acre fire moving northeast with 4 to 5 foot flames. District 3 arrived and took command on W. Long Circle with mixed fuel and 8 foot flames threatening houses to the north and apartments to the south. Engine 14 arrived and set-up on S. Ida Ave. and pulled hand lines in on the south with Tower 14. Engine 12 established a water supply and Engine 13 assisted on the south flank with Brush 13. Engine 11, Brush 11 and Medic 12 set-up on the north flank with Medic 9 assigned as medical group. Crews were able to get the fire controlled at 14:31 with an extended mop-up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
