West Metro Lightning Strike

On September 3rd, 2013 at 17:47 West Metro Fire Rescue was alerted to a confirmed structure fire at 13609 W. Purdue Ave. in Willowbrook. A 911 caller reported flames showing from the eves after the house was hit by lightning. Engine 11 arrived to a two-story single-family residence with fire showing from the 2nd floor, and began offensive attack with a 1 3/4 line in. District 2 arrived and took command on the Alpha side. Engine 10 established the water supply, pulled a back-up line in, and then assisted with searches and fire attack. Tower 10 assigned to the roof for vertical ventilation and was quickly pulled off due to heavy lightning in the area. SAM 1 secured the utilities, and Engine 12 assigned as RIT. Medic 12 and Medic 9 assisted Engine 11 and Engine 10 on the 2nd floor for fire attack, command requested additional engine to the scene. Engine 11 quickly knocked the flames in the second floor bedroom and reported fire in the attic. Rescue 4 arrived on scene to the Delta side with a 2 1/2 exposure line while interior crews opened up and extinguished the remaining fire. The fire was placed under control and out at 18:20 with no injuries reported. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
