Lakewood West Alaska Place House Fire
West Metro Basement Fire
Just after 15:00 on February 6th, 2014 West Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire in the 8700 block of W. Alaska Pl. in Lakewood. Engine 3 arrived to find black showing from a wood frame home with a walk-out basement, and pulled a 1 3/4 attack line for fire control and started a primary search with Tower 3. Engine 2 established a water supply to Engine 3 from Estes St. and Rescue 4 pulled a 2nd attack line to the Charlie side and assisted crews with primary search. District 2 arrived and assumed command, reported a fully involved basement fire, and due to the frigid temperatures and fire volume, command requested two additional engines and one medic. Medic 8 arrived on scene and assisted on the Charlie division, and Medic 1 assigned as medical group. Crews pulled a 2 1/2 line the Charlie-Delta corner and another 1 3/4 to the Charlie side. Because there was a large amount of combustible materials inside, an exterior attack with foam was used to extinguish the fire. Crews got the fire controlled and an extensive overhaul was needed. No injuries and the cause is under investigation. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
