Arvada Structure Fire
At 01:30 on March 10th, 2015 Arvada Fire Protection District was alerted to a structure fire in the 6800 block of Nelson St. Dispatch advised responding units that multiple 911 callers reporting fire showing, and another 911 call advised that an explosion was heard before seeing smoke and fire from the back porch of the house. Engine 56 arrived and found a working fire from the Alpha side of a single-story ranch style residence, declared an defensive strategy with initial attack via the deck gun, and pulled a line in for fire attack. Battalion 51 arrived and assumed command, and assigned Truck 56 to preformed a 360, which they reported heavy fire from the Charlie side, and checked for victims with a TIC. Engine 51 pulled a 2nd line off Engine 56 for fire attack, and Command reported that the residents were all accounted for, and were outside of the house. Engine 57 arrived and assigned to pull an additional off Engine 56 to the Charlie side. Crews worked over 30 minutes on heavy fire conditions throughout the house before starting an extended overhaul. Crews found evidence of an explosion with glass and debris strewn across the yard and street from visible vandalism. Crews found significant structural damage that precluded them from conducting interior operations. No injuries were reported and the fire investigation determined to be an intentionally set fire.
