West Metro Garage Fire
Just before 03:00 on November 17th, 2015 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 8000 block of W. 20th Ave. in Lakewood. Engine 1 arrived to a small, one-story single-family dwelling with a working fire on the Alpha side garage in the offensive strategy, and began a fast attack with a 1 3/4 pre-connect. Engine 2 laid in from W. 20th Ave. & Carr St. and secure a water supply to Engine 1. Tower 3 started primary search, and Engine 3 advanced a back-up attack line. A 360 revealed no basement and no change to the incident action plan (IAP). District 1 arrived on the Alpha side, and assumed command with heavy fire conditions. Crews on the Charlie side discovered a power line down and fire extension into a shed. The fire was quickly placed under control with all searches negative. Crews worked the fire in cold conditions with snow and temperatures in the 20’s. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.
