Arvada Wind Driven Defensive House Fire
West 85th Lane House Fire
At 04:37 on January 9th, 2017 Arvada Fire Protection District was alerted to a possible structure fire in the area of W. 84th Ave. & Rogers Way. While responding Engine 58 confirmed a working fire visible from W. 80th Ave & Quaker St. A 911 caller reported fire from the back porch of a hose, and dispatch confirmed the address to be in the 16400 block of W. 85th Lane. Engine 57 arrived on scene to a large 2-story residential structure with a working fire and fire exposure to the structure to the west. Engine 57 established a water supply and pulled a 2 1/2 line in for fire attack. Battalion 51 arrived and assumed command, and declared a defensive strategy on a home that was under construction. High winds pushed the fire venting from the roof to extend to a second structure. Engine 53 pulled a 2nd line in from Engine 57. Truck 56 established a second water supply and pulled a 2 1/2 line in and Engine 58 pulled a line to the Charlie side of the second structure, Bravo 2. Dispatched advised that a large dumpster was also on fire at W. 84th Ave. & Poppy St. and Command requested to move the ghost engine up, and Engine 55 was moved up to the scene. Engine 57 charged the Blizfire for Engine 58. Chief 51 on scene requested an additional engine to the scene. Engine 52 was moved up from ghost and assigned as Bravo 3 & 4 exposure protection. Truck 56 set-up the tower for aerial master stream operations and Medic 56 requested additional medic to the scene for a non-emergent medical transport for a firefighter. Medic 55 arrived and transported one firefighter patient to a local hospital with minor injuries. Crews worked an extended overhaul and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
