West Metro Vegetation Fire

At 01:18 on January 11th, 2017 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported large vegetation fire in the area of W. 26th Ave. & Kipling St. with multiple 911 calls. Dispatch advised that the fire may be closer to W. 32nd Ave. in the Crown Hill Open Space Park in Wheat Ridge. Engine 17 & Brush 17 arrived on scene to a brush fire about 200 yards from W. 32nd Ave. & Garland St. with 2 to 4 foot flames that were being fanned by winds from the northwest, and burning in light fuel. District 1 arrived and took command, reported that no structures were threatened. Engine 9 & Brush 9 arrived for fire attack, crews got a quick knock on the fire. Command placed the fire under control at 01:35 and out at 01:40 with about one acre burned. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
