Around 20:00 on April 3rd, 2017 Denver Fire Department Group M-23 was dispatched to a multi-family structure fire at Iowa & Broadway. First arriving Truck 16 sized up an abandoned single story motel with fire showing from the roof, assumed command and forced entry. Engine 16 laid in from the plug at Broadway at Iowa, and advanced a line inside for fire attack. Rescue laddered the roof and Engine 11 went to work on Engine 16’s hydrant. Truck 16 found flames inside a fireplace with extension to the cockloft and roof. Engine 21 established a secondary water supply at Lincoln and Iowa, Tower 23 set up for aerial operations and checked for extension. Rescue reported flames showing from the delta side roof and after opening two holes reported heavy fire in the attic. District Chief 7 assumed command, District Chief 3 went to the roof, Ops 2 assumed Safety and Engine 11 was assigned to the roof with an attack line. The main body of fire was quickly knocked, all searches proved negative and companies started picking up within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported and investigators were called to the scene.
