At 1:20 on February 20th, 2017 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire near Jeffco Fairgrounds off 6th Ave on Green Mountain, with multiple calls. Incident Command and staging were set up off C-470, past the footbridge on Rooney Road. Engine 6 & Brush 6 provided structure protection off Bayaud & Maple at the Sixth Ave Estates side of the fire. Engine 9 & Brush 9 arrived and made access from the west off Rooney Ranch off C-470. District 2 arrived and assumed command; Brush 13 arrived and assisted Engine 9 on the west flank with progressive hose lays. Medic 5 arrived and set-up at the staging as Medical group. Fire under control at 2:23 with two acres that burned, and crews worked started mop-up.
Just after 6:00 Crews were alerted to another fire just west of the other fire on Green Mountain, dispatch advised District 2 of multiple calls. Brush 6 made access west off C-470, and the staging was again set up off C-470. Medic 4 arrived and set-up at the staging as Medical group. District 2 arrived and advised that the fire was northeast of the radio towers burning back to the previous fire, and units to use progressive hose lays. Brush 11 arrived and assisted Brush 4 with scrub up. Engine 11 assisted brush units with water fill up. Fire under control at 8:57 with about one acre burned, crews worked on hot spots throughout the morning. Both fires are under investigation with no structures threatened or evacuations.
