Jim Schaefer Memorial

The Arvada Fire Protection District held a Celebration of Life memorial service for Lieutenant James R. Schaefer, Jr. (676) at Faith Bible Chapel on Wright Street in Arvada on September 14th, 2017. Lt. Schaefer passed away on September 10, 2017, after a year-long battle with liver and pancreatic cancer. Jim served 20 years with the Arvada Fire Department, most recently as a lieutenant at Station 53. Firefighters from across Colorado came out to honor Lt. Schaefer at the service and joined in with the apparatus procession through Arvada, passing Stations 53, 54, and 56. Jim was honored by the U.S. Honor Flag, since September 2001, the United States Honor Flag has paid tribute to those who have lost their life in the line of duty. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper ordered flags lowered to half-staff in honor of Jim. He is survived by his wife, three children, mother, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
