West Metro Motel Fire

On January 1st, 2017 at 20:57 West Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a confirmed commercial structure fire at the Big Bunny Motel 6218 W. Colfax Ave. Engine 1 reported flames showing from Station 1 and asked dispatch to start a 2nd alarm. Engine 1 arrived to an average size single story motel with heavy fire showing, and pulled a 2 1/2 line in for fire attack with Medic 1 & Medic 11. Engine 16 arrived and established a water supply to Engine 1 from Kendall St. & Colfax Ave. Tower 2 arrived and assigned for primary search, and to check the attic for extension, Engine 2 pulled a 2nd line in for fire attack. Crews were able to get control of the fire and the 2nd alarm was cancelled. District 1 arrived and assumed command, asked dispatch for Lakewood Police to shut down eastbound Colfax Ave. for fire ops and requested a 3rd medic to the scene. Tower 8 arrived and assigned as roof ops, Engine 3 as RIT and Medic 3 as medical group. An all-clear and fire under control was called at 21:15. One patent was transported for smoke inhalation to a local hospital, and 10 parties were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
