West Metro Kitchen Fire
At 16:53 on March 30th, 2017 West Metro Fire Rescue were dispatched to a structure fire at 2445 Youngfield St at the Applewood Retirement Community. First due Engine 5 found a large retirement center with a working fire, smoke showing from the second floor deck and stretched a vertical sandpipe to the second floor with Medic 5 for fire attack. Engine 2 established a water supply from the hydrant at 23rd & Youngfield. Engine 17 arrived and pulled a second line in, Medic 3 was assigned as Medical, Tower 2 arrived and was assigned to primary search on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Once inside, Tower 2 rescued a party on the 3rd floor who was transported to a local hospital by Medic 3. District 2 assumed command in the offensive strategy and requested 2 additional medics to the scene for life safety. Tower 8 arrived as RIT and then assigned primary search on the first floor, Engine 6 was then given the RIT duties.
Jefferson County Sheriff worked with displaced residents and distributed blankets to keep them warm. Crews were able to get the fire under control at 17:31, and the fire was declared out at 17:53. Crews worked an extended overhaul, no other injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.
