Adams County Self-Storage Fire
At approximately 5:03 on March 8th, 2018 Adams County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the 7300 block of York St. when an Adams County Deputy Sheriff driving by the area called 9-1-1 to report a structure fire. The first unit arrived at 5:11 a.m. and saw a multi-unit, self-storage structure with heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of several of the single units. Firefighters began to simultaneously fight the fire and look for people inside.
Because no employees or customers were found, firefighters continued to fight the fire. Crews knocked down the fire at approximately 5:43 a.m. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to five of the units and keep the fire from extending to the 60 adjacent units, saving the business owner approximately $1,015,000. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
There were no injuries to firefighters. A total of seven units and 17 firefighters from Adams County Fire Rescue responded to the incident. South Adams County Fire Department assisted with two additional units and five firefighters. Adams County Sheriff also assisted with the incident.
