On June 13th, 2018 the Adams County Fire Rescue Water Rescue Team participated in its annual swift water training up in Golden. Every June, the ACFR Swiftwater Team conducts training in Golden because the speed and volume of the Clear Creek during run-off simulates the type of conditions that ACFR experiences during flood times. The team trained on survival floats, water maneuvering, throw bag rescues, live bait contact rescues, high-line set up and comfortability swims. “We spent the most time on the live patient contact rescues because in an emergency, that is our most likely chance to save a life,” said Engineer Dave Carpenter. The current version of the ACFR water rescue team started about nine years ago. “The training has paid off as our members performed a live rescue in 2015 in the Platte River at 76th and Steele Street,” Carpenter said. “Our team also was deployed to the 2013 flood in Lyons.”
