On October 8th, 2018 Denver Fire Department Academy Class 2018-02 entered the fire training grounds to participate in live fire evolutions in self-made, furnished, single room burn cells that simulate room-and-contents fires at the Denver Fire Training Center. The class was divided into 4 groups with each group rotating through safety, RIT, engine company, and truck company duties. Joining Class 18-02 were academy instructors, several engine companies, arson bureau, BATFE, Rescue 2, and Cora the accelerant-sniffing Black Labrador Retriever. Topics of instruction included: building construction, advancing hose line, fire behavior, reading smoke, forcible entry, origin and cause, preservation of evidence, pump operation, fire attack, over haul, and ventilation. After each evolution the groups were critiqued on their performance. Class 18-02 graduated November 29th, 2018 at the Graduation/Continuation Ceremony.
