Lakewood Apartment Fire

At approximately 10:27 on December 11th, 2018 West Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire at the 40 West Residences 5830 W. Colfax Ave. Reports came in with an apartment full of smoke with an occupant trapped inside. Engine 1 and SAM 1 arrived first on scene on the Alpha side to a multi-family unit with nothing showing on 3 sides. Engine 1 made access to the building and reported smoke in the hallway on the 2nd floor. Engine 16 established a water supply by connecting to the hydrant, and requested Lakewood Police Department to shutdown Colfax Ave. District 1 arrived on scene and assumed command. Engine 1 declared the fire out at 10:38 and located a victim in the hallway where they were transported to the hospital via Medic 1 with a unknown condition. Tower 2 assisted with evacuation and ventilation of the 2nd floor. Engine 7 was sent in to search the 3rd floor. District 1 requested an additional medic unit and Medic 16 was dispatched to the scene. The fire was caused by improperly disposed of smoking materials.
