Thornton Fire Department held a dedication for the new Engine 72 at Station 72 on February 10th, 2017 including many that braved the cold weather including the City of Thornton Mayor, council members, city manager and their staff with fire family and friends. Firefighters with the ceremonial bucket transferred water from the old engine that has protected life and property for many years to the new engine as a sign of respect. Also, part of the ceremony was the “wetdown” of the engine, with the blessing from the department chaplain and then the “push-in” into the bay for service. The new engine is a 2017 Pierce Enforcer with 750 gallon water tank and 1500 gpm pump, the new engine replaced the 2006 Smeal / Spartan, that will become a reserve engine.
