Arapahoe County Deck Fire
At 02:13 on July 30th, 2019 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a confirmed residential structure fire at 9768 E. Fair Lane in Arapahoe County. The 911 caller reported all occupants were out and the back of the house on fire. First arriving Engine 31 sized up a medium size 2-story single family dwelling with a basement and smoke in the area. Engine 31 took command and began investigating. A 360 revealed a working deck fire on the bravo Charlie corner, the crew from 31 advanced a horizontal standpipe for fire control. Medic 31 hand-jacked 5 inch to the nearest hydrant and established a water supply. Battalion Chief 3 assumed command in the offensive strategy and assigned Tower 32 to check for extension inside and perform a primary search. Engine 33 assisted Engine 31 with fire control, Safety 35 was assigned as the incident safety officer and Medic 32 stood by for EMS. Tower 35 was placed on deck and Engine 14 level 1 staged. The fire was quickly knocked down with no extension into the structure. Tower 32 completed a primary search which proved negative and encountered a light smoke condition inside. Once the fire was out horizonal ventilation was performed. No injuries occurred and the cause is under investigation. Additional information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue.
