Centennial Garage Fire
At 15:42 p.m. on June 30th, 2019 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to multiple reports of a garage fire at 16303 E. Fair Ave. in Centennial. A large plume of black smoke was widely visible as units responded. Upon arrival, Engine 42 found the attached 2 car garage fully engulfed with flames, spreading up the back of the home and into the attic. The crew from 42 advanced a 2 ½” and began exterior fire attack with ammunition exploding. Engine 22 secured a water supply and advanced a second 2 ½” for fire control. Battalion Chief 5 assumed command, Safety 35 was assigned as incident safety and Battalion 4 was assigned as Division 2 with companies to check for extension. Thankfully the family safely evacuated without injuries and firefighters reunited them with 2 pet cats. The garage and two vehicles inside were destroyed but firefighters prevented the fire from spreading through the house. Class B foam was used to extinguish a fuel fire in the garage and extensive overhaul was needed. The incident was under control in less than an hour and investigators are working to determine cause. 2 additional Engines over the 1st Alarm were special called.
