At approximately 16:00 on July 18th, 2019 Colorado Springs Fire Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Wildfire Team was dispatched to Hwy. 24 and Ridge Rd. for a brush fire. Engine 2 reported fire on the northwest side of the highway, and advised the fire was slow-moving and began fire attack. Engine 1 arrived on scene and started as tanker to shuttle water ops. After Engine 1’s first refill to Engine 2, Engine 1 was released when Engine 2 had a mechanical failure and Engine 1 remained on scene in Engine 2’s place. Battalion 1 advised Wildland 4 could cancel due to resources on scene. Crews soon extinguished the flames and began to mop up and units began to be slowly released from the scene. Engine 2 remained on location after command had been terminated for the mechanic to meet them at the incident location for repairs.
