Douglas County Lightning Strike

At 16:45 p.m. on June 30th, 2019 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a home that was struck by a bolt of lightning that ignited an attic fire at 13144 Mercury Dr. in Douglas County.  The occupant of the home dialed 911 and used a fire extinguisher to control the flames.  First arriving Tower 34 and Medic 34 found a small single story home with nothing showing.  After further investigation a smoldering attic fire was found above the garage and the crew from 34 opened up.  Engine 33 advanced a 1 ¾” pre-connect for overhaul and Battalion 2 assumed command.  The fire was quickly extinguished and the balance of the 1st Alarm was cancelled.  No injuries occurred and the damage was isolated to the garage. Additional story and information provided by South Metro Fire Rescue.
