Douglas County Lightning Strike

At 16:45 on June 30th, 2019 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a home that was struck by a bolt of lightning that ignited an attic fire at 13144 Mercury Drive in Douglas County.  The occupant of the home dialed 911 and used a fire extinguisher to control the flames.  First arriving Tower 34 and Medic 34 found a small single story home with nothing showing.  After further investigation a smoldering attic fire was found above the garage and the crew from 34 opened up.  Engine 33 advanced a 1 3/4 pre-connect for overhaul and Battalion 2 assumed command.  The fire was quickly extinguished and the balance of the 1st Alarm was cancelled.  No injuries occurred and the damage was isolated to the garage.
