Poudre House Fire

At 00:47 on July 5th, 2020 Poudre Fire Authority was dispatched by Fort Collins 911 (FC911) to a structure fire on Camino del Mundo. Engine 6 arrived to a medium size two-story home with heavy smoke and fire on the side of the home and the garage side door and started fire attack. Engine 1 arrived and started primary search and Engine 12 established the water supply. Crews worked fire that crawled up the exterior and started to involve the 2nd story. Engine 8 assisted with fire attack and pulled a 2nd line in. Battalion 2 arrived and assumed command, and requested additional medic. Crews completed a search of the home and used a traditional hose attack from the exterior and interior to extinguish the flames. High winds and heat were a factor in fire attack and maintaining fire control. Crews remove some of the garage ceiling to inspect the interior spaces and maintain control of the fire, and remained on scene to monitor and extinguish hot spots as well as ventilate the home. Two adults and three children went to the hospital for assessment and a firefighter suffered an ankle injury. The cause of the fire was improperly disposed of fireworks that started outside of the garage in a five-gallon bucket. One of the residents was awoken by a smoke alarm and discovered the fire.
