West Metro House Fire

At 12:10 on July 7th, 2020 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in the 5200 block of W. 3rd Ave. in Lakewood. Engine 1 arrived to a single-family residential with heavy smoke showing from two sides and started fast attack with Medic 11. Engine 3 arrived and laid in and started primary search with Medic 3. Engine 7 pulled a 2nd line in on the Alpha side and checked for extension. Tower 2 started roof ops and cut several holes, Tower 8 assigned as RIT and Medic 7 as rehab. Crews worked fire in the attic space and with more than 90° outside, and command requested additional engine and medic to the scene. The fire was put under control within 30 minutes and crews started salvage and an extensive overhaul. The fire started outside the home, then moved to the exterior and then up into the attic. The residents who were home at the time got out safely. The cause of the fire was determined to be from children playing with fire. No injuries were reported.
