Lone Tree Southern Hills Circle 2nd Alarm
South Metro 2nd Alarm
At 19:36 on July 20th, 2020 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a multi-family structure fire in the 9400 block of Southern Hills Circle in Lone Tree. Multiple 911 callers reported the back of 2 town homes on fire and a plume of smoke was visible from a distance. First arriving Tower 34 encountered a large volume of fire consuming the rear of the structure and flames coming out the front door. A 2nd Alarm was immediately called, doubling the amount of personnel. Firefighters quickly controlled the flames from the exterior and used a combination of strategies to fight the remaining fire. The middle of 3 homes was fully involved with fire on the first floor, second floor and in the attic. It was too dangerous to enter so crews were “defensive” in the middle unit, meaning they only fought fire from the outside. Simultaneously, crews went inside the 2 adjacent homes and were “offensive” to extinguish the fire from the interior. 2 residents were transported to the hospital, one with breathing problems and one with minor burns. Arapahoe Rescue Patrol volunteers remained on scene overnight watching for hot spots and a fire engine returned in the morning to extinguish smoldering wood. Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental and caused by a barbecue grill failure. Additional information was provided by South Metro Fire Rescue
