Pueblo West Highway 50 MVA

Just before noon on October 7th, 2020 Pueblo West Fire Department was dispatched to Hwy. 50 & McCulloch Blvd. on a traffic accident. Original information was given that a rear end accident involving a smaller car and a dump trailer had occurred and one party was trapped with obvious injuries. Crews arrived on scene and found a small hatchback had collided with the dump trailer at highway speeds and extrication was required. Due to the mechanism of injury Flight For Life was requested by Chief 801. All on duty units began the process on scene to extricate the patient and started patient care. Both stations crews were on scene working when a second medical call toned. Two firefighters took Engine 831 and left responding to the medical leaving minimum staffing on scene of the accident. After about 20 minutes the patient was extricated and Lifeguard 4 landed and helped continue patient care. After the patient was stabilized, they were loaded into the helicopter and flown to an area hospital. The eastbound lanes of Hwy. 50 were shut down for about an hour while crews worked.
