South Metro Vegetation Fire

Around 16:30 on July 27th, 2020 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a vegetation fire on the South Platte Reservoir property, located north of C-470 and east of Platte Canyon Rd. Several people reported the fire to 911 and a column of smoke was visible while crews were responding. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 100 x 50 foot area of grass and trees on fire along the creek bed. Crews from Engine 16, Brush 18 and Brush 19 worked for approximately 45 minutes to extinguish the fire which did not threaten any structures. No injuries occurred and although the cause of the fire will remain undetermined, a homeless camp was found nearby. Even with recent rainfall, wildfire danger still exists.
