At approximately 12:05 on April 27th, 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center dispatched the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District and Wescott Fire Protection District to the 900 block of Pine Nut Ct. for a possible structure fire. Once en route, dispatch advised the calling party reported the attic was on fire with white and brown smoke coming from the residence. Battalion 2202 went en route and advised to upgrade the call to a working fire before arriving on scene and requesting a 2nd alarm assignment. Ladder 531 and Engine 2212 began fire attack and were able to evacuate one party from the structure, while Engine 511 arrived and performed a reserve lay from Engine 2212 for water supply. Once crews got into the 2nd floor and the attic space they were able to get water on the fire. After the primary and secondary searches were complete, the roof began to collapse into the ceiling with active fire still in the alpha side top eve. Medic 782 arrived and established medical group and Medic 582 arrived to form rehab. Ladder 531 then raised their aerial and was able to get a quick knock on the alpha side eve. Crews then resumed overhaul on the 2nd floor and attic space, Division 2 and Division Alpha then determined the Alpha gable was unstable and created a collapse zone both interior and exterior. Air 15 arrived and established a bottle refill station. Command then requested Chief 2201 to photograph the roofline and attic space for evidence of a lightning strike. IES Rehab arrived on scene and established another rehab station. At 16:20 command was terminated and units were cleared from the scene.
