On June 21st, 2021 at 17:00 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported water rescue at Cherry Creek State Park. Dispatch advised that a boat was on fire in Cherry Creek Reservoir near Tower Loop and that three people were in the water. A dark black plume could be seen several miles away. Firefighters arrived on scene and learned that the three people made it out of the water. Boat 31 was launched and several fire extinguishers were used to tackle the blaze. The charred vessel was then towed to the northwest corner of the lake where the crew of Engine 21 hosed it down. The boat rekindled and sunk along the west shore as Boat 31 was towing it back to the west boat ramp.
