At 14:28 on October 10th, 2026 Castle Rock Fire & Rescue Department responded to a reported small brush fire near Crowfoot Valley Rd. and Pradera Parkway. First arriving Brush 155 sized up a 50×50 vegetation fire with a slow rate of spread and advanced a progressive hose lay on the right flank with Medic 155. Within minutes, gusty winds resulted in higher spread rate, prompting an upgrade to a large brush fire. Mutual aid resources from Franktown Fire Protection District and South Metro Fire Rescue were requested. Battalion 151 assumed command, assigned Brush 155 as the Zulu Division and Brush 184 as the Alpha Division supervisors. Engine 154 initially nursed Brush 155 and with no hydrants nearby, Tender 46 was needed for water supply. Brush 46 assisted in the Alpha Division and the fire was contained within 30 minutes. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office OEM Helicopter 5TA was fighting the Barr Fire in the Pike National Forest and ultimately was not needed at this incident. The fire was approximately 1 acre and declared out within 90 minutes. No injuries occurred, no structures were threatened and the property owner stated they were shooting when the fire sparked.
