At 23:21 on January 21st, 2021 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported house fire on Autumnwood Place in Highlands Ranch. The 911 caller reported hearing a loud noise and saw flames in a bathroom. Thankfully no one in the home was injured and they safely evacuated outside. First arriving Firefighters observed smoke visible from the 2nd floor. Crews quickly located and extinguished the fire which was isolated to a bathroom. They conducted a thorough search of the home, confirmed the fire did not extend and ventilated the smoke. Fire Investigators determined that a hot hairdryer was placed too close to combustible material and that heat was enough to start a fire. SMFR recommends always unplugging heat producing items from electrical outlets after being used. Place them on a safe surface away from things that could ignite, like paper or cloth products.
