West Metro Apartment Fire

At 01:47 on October 15th, 2021 JeffCom dispatched West Metro Fire Rescue to a structure fire in the 12200 block of W. 2nd Place in Lakewood. Engine 4 arrived to a three-story garden level multiple family apartment complex with smoke showing, and pulled 1 3/4 to the second floor for fire attack with Medic 4. Lakewood Police officers started evacuations. Engine 2 secured the water supply to Engine 4, Engine 3 assisted with fire attack and search and Tower 2 started roof ops and 3rd floor for search. Crews found fire on the second floor, and District 2 arrived and assumed command in the offensive strategy on Bravo side. Medic 3 assigned as medical, and Tower 8 as RIT. Engine 2 checked the attic area. The fire was put under control at 02:10 and crews started an extensive overhaul. The fire started in a utility closet on the deck and spread through the wall to the apartment and up into the attic on the floor above. Two apartments had moderate damage and four people were displaced. Investigators determined that the fire was caused by smoking materials on a second floor deck. There were no reported injuries.
