On August 9th, 2021 around 14:45 Pueblo Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 7th St. and Albany Ave. on a reported commercial structure fire at the Albany Event Center. Arriving units found a working fire inside of a commercial building and began making fire attack. Crews were unable to make access to the fire very easily and it was mainly in the attic spaces of the building. Temperatures at the time of the call were 100°+ which made conditions hard on firefighters. After fighting the fire for some time and several requests for additional engines the decision was made to withdraw all firefighters and go defensive. Backfill recalls we’re done for additional firefighters to come in and work on reserve rigs. By two hours into the incident 8 out of the 10 stations had their apparatus on scene. Pueblo West Fire Department and Pueblo Rural Fire Protection District both sent apparatus into the city to back fill stations and run calls. Beulah Fire Protection District and Pueblo County Sheriff Emergency Services Bureau (ESB) Fire Team units responded and ran rehab for the firefighters to help keep them cool during the hot temperatures. West Park Fire Department also responded with their air trailer to fill bottles. Units stayed on scene through the night monitoring the building with hot spots.
