On October 24th, 2021 around 21:00 Rye Fire Protection District was dispatched by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center to the area of 9500 Abbey Rd. on a reported brush fire. Several callers reported a growing brush fire with an unknown cause. Gusty winds in the area were pushing the fire to the east. Multiple juniper trees were reported on fire. As Rye units were leaving the station they could see a glow and smoke visible. A short time later Chief 201 requested the west strike team and they were dispatched shortly after. Multiple units responded and the fire was contained after several hours of firefighting. The cause was determined to be a power line issue and the power company responded to mitigate the issue. The size of the fire was unknown but was last estimated at 10+ acres. Additional information provided by Code 4 Photography
