Forensic Lab HazMat Response

On November 2nd, 2021 at approximately 15:10 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a hazardous materials spill at the Unified Metropolitan Forensic Crime Laboratory, 8555 Double Helix Court in Douglas County. Engine 44 arrived on scene, confirmed that an unknown chemical had spilled and requested a full hazmat response. Firefighters were able to neutralize the hazard and ventilate the building within thirty minutes. UMFCL is a partnership between the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Aurora Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. It provides fingerprint examinations, firearms examinations, chemistry, DNA and questioned document examinations.
