Douglas County Glasgow Court House Fire
South Metro House Fire
On March 20th, 2022 at 17:12 South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 12100 block of Glasgow Court in Douglas County. South Metro Fire Communications advised that 911 caller reporting the deck is on fire and possible animals inside, and District Chief 1 upgraded the call to a confirmed structure fire. Engine 44 arrived to a small two-story residential structure with a working fire, pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack and primary search with Medic 44 in the offensive strategy and secured their own water supply. District Chief 1 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha side, and assigned Tower 34 with search, and Med 1 with medical group, Engine 36 assigned to pull a 2nd hose line off Engine 44 to the 2nd floor and check for extension into the attic space. While flames were being extinguished, aggressive interior searches occurred throughout the home. Crews encountered low to zero visibility and extreme heat inside while using thermal imaging cameras to quickly search in the toxic smoke for people and pets. The residents weren’t home at the time, but firefighters rescued 2 dogs and 1 cat from inside the home, two of them were treated with oxygen and they’re all doing well. Extensive overhaul was needed to locate and extinguish hot spots in the basement, first floor, second floor and attic space. Investigators determined the cause is accidental, with spontaneous combustion of organic material that was next to the house that started the fire.
