Grand Junction Fatal Fire

At 23:04 on September 21st, 2022 the Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to the 2800 block of Carter Lane in the southeast part of the city for a residential structure fire. Callers reported a working assignment with fire from the roof. Engine 4 arrived first due to a single-story single-family dwelling with a working fire and significant involvement of at least the Alpha and Bravo sides. Engine 4 pulled a 1 3/4 line for fire attack and worked to establish their own water supply at the intersection of Carter Lane and Coulson Dr. Truck 1 arrived second in and assisted with fire attack and water supply. A 2 1/2 attack line was pulled and a defensive strategy was made on the larger body of fire. Engine 3 arrived and was assigned search with Engine 2 shortly behind. During the primary search, one fire victim was found and removed and Ambulance 2 and Ambulance 12 crew transported one fire victim to the hospital with CPR in progress. A second victim was located and pronounced deceased on the scene. One additional ambulance was dispatched to cover medical at the scene while the fire victim was transported. The fire is under investigation by the Grand Junction Fire Department’s Fire Marshal Office and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Team.
