Logan County Grass Fire

Merino Volunteer Fire Department

On June 2nd, 2022 at approximately 16:00 Merino Volunteer Fire Department and Sterling Fire Protection District responded to a grass fire at mile marker 114 I-76 westbound with reports that it spread all the way to the mile marker 112 westbound. Units arrived on scene to find a two acre grass fire moving slowly on both sides of the interstate. Sterling Fire worked on the north side of the interstate while Merino began fire attack on the two spot fires in the median. Sterling Fire and Merino Fire cleared after mop up was completed around 17:00. Logan County Sheriff’s Office shut down the interstate completely and managing traffic control during fire operations.
