On May 7th, 2022 at 15:00 Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Bureau (ESB) was dispatched to the 3300 block of Overton Rd. on a reported grass fire. Original callers reported a fire in the area that was growing in the due to the gusty winds. As reports came in one caller reported the fire had grown to at least 5 acres. Due to that report mutual-aid was requested through the county wide strike team of Type 6’s as well as from Hanover Fire in El Paso county. Tender 191 was the first arriving unit and sized up a several acre fire burning in the Fountain Creek river bottom. The fire was actively torching off groups of tamarack trees and spreading to the north. Crews began initial attack and made a fast stop on the progression. Once stopped crews spent several hours mopping up including saw work from several sawyers. In total the fire burned an estimated 2 acres and the cause of the fire was still being determined. During the time of the fire several local residents offered up 3000 gallons of water on their properties as well as a dozer to aid crews in their efforts.
