Mock Fire Investigation Training

On March 24th, 2023 Arvada Fire Protection District Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) used “burn cells,” a small structure that can emulate the interior of a room, to conduct mock fire investigations. In addition to performing building inspections and construction plan reviews, the FMO conducts dozens to nearly a hundred fire investigations every year. Trainings like these help our investigators stay up to date with the latest science and techniques in modern fire investigations. First, they’ll prepare the burn cell by furnishing the room with common household items and furniture. Then, they will recreate the conditions that allow for ignition, such as a cigarette in the garbage or a candle near drapes. Lastly, they’ll simulate a real fire investigation by evaluating fire pattern and effects, and studying debris and evidence. This training occurred at the Training Center following Multi-Company Drills. Fairmount Fire Protection District Engine 32 also assisted with the training.
