La Junta Highway 109 Wildland Fire

On March 30th, 2023 La Junta Fire Department was dispatched to a reported wildland fire near Hwy. 109 and Y Rd. Firefighters arrived on scene and found a moderate sized wildland fire. Crews were on scene about two hours extinguishing the fire and mopping up hot spots. Approximately 27 acres burned. The Cheraw Rural Fire Department, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, Las Animas-Bent County Fire Department, Rocky Ford Fire Department, Otero County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Department of Transportation assisted with this incident.
