West Metro Structure Fire

On February 19th, 2023 at 18:41 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the 900 block of Fenton St. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised units en route that multiple callers reporting flames visible and possible parties inside. Engine 1 arrived to a working structure fire from a small single-story single-family with fire on the Charlie side and Medic 1 pulled 1 3/4 to the Charlie side for fire fire attack and Medic 11 pulled a 2nd line to the front door with evacuations in progress. Engine 7 secured the water supply to Engine 1 from W. 10th Ave. & Eaton St. and Engine 3 assisted Medic 11 and Tower 2 with the primary search. SAM 1 advised of a downed power line. District 1 arrived and took command in the offensive strategy and requested two more medics to the scene. Engine 7 assigned to pulled another line off Engine 1 to the Bravo side and Medic 7 as medical. One patient was transported to a local hospital and was reported in critical condition. Crews indicate that the patient was trying to find his two cats before firefighters were on scene. Firefighters rescued one cat that unfortunately died from its injuries and crews were unable to locate second cat. The home has extensive damage and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
