West Metro Structure Fire

On October 3rd, 2023 at 20:02 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 2100 block of S. Eldridge St. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised that smoke and flames showing from the upstairs bedroom above the garage from 911 caller. Engine 4 arrived to a working fire from a medium two-story single-family structure with a working fire above the garage and pulled a 1 3/4 with Medic 4 for fire attack and primary search. District 2 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha side in the offensive strategy. Engine 8 set-up the water supply and Engine 9 pulled additional 1 3/4 line off Engine 4 to the 2nd floor for primary search and fire control. The fire was contained to the second story bedroom with smoke damage on the second and first floors. Crews rescued one cat that was hiding in the basement. The other cat couldn’t be located, but is believed to be hiding as well. One resident was evaluated for smoke inhalation and released. The fire was accidental and was caused by smoking.
