West Metro Fatal Apartment Fire
On April 21st, 2023 at 03:49 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 8000 block of W. 12th Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised that multiple callers and possible one person trapped inside. Engine 3 arrived on scene to a single-story apartment building with a working fire on the Alpha-Delta corner with heavy smoke and flames from one apartment that was extending into a second unit and pulled a 1 3/4 for fire attack. Engine 1, Medic 11 with Tower 2 arrived and assisted with the primary searches and rescues inside the structure. Command requested two additional medics to the scene. District 1 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha-Bravo corner in the offensive strategy. Engine 16 arrived and pulled a 2nd line in for fire attack, Engine 2 assisted with the primary searches and Tower 8 set-up for ventilation. One person was rescued by firefighters from the burning structure. Three patients were transported to the hospital and one person was treated on scene. The fire was put under control at 04:15. One of the victims that was transported died. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue
