Loveland Structure Fire
On July 4th, 2023 at 17:59 Loveland Emergency Communications Center (LECC) (200) dispatched Loveland Fire Rescue Authority responded to a structure fire 2443 Cottongrass Ave. Squad 46 arrived on scene of a under construction two-story house with a working attic fire, construction workers on scene advised that everyone was out of the house and that the house had been struck by lightning. Squad 46, Engine 50 and Tower 46 crews advanced a 1.75” attack line and a fog nail line to the second floor for fire attack. With extremely heavy rain falling and additional lightning in the immediate area, the IC determined that roof operations would not be viable initially. Battalion 41 arrived on scene and IC was upgraded to him from Squad 46. Engine 4203 established a water supply to Engine 50 and stood by on deck and rotated interior for overhaul operations. Command assigned Engine 41’s Lieutenant as the Attack Group Supervisor and the Rescue 42 Lieutenant as the Support Group Supervisor. Engine 45 was staged and made available on scene. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. Once the storm passed, Tower 46 initiated aerial operations to inspect and overhaul the area on the roof that sustained the lightning strike. During this incident LFRA and Berthoud Fire District companies responded to three additional reported structure fires due to lightning strikes in Loveland.
