Thornton Fire Department held a Transfer of Command ceremony on February 7th, 2023 at Station 1 to officially pass command from Fire Chief Gordie Olson to Interim Fire Chief Steve Kelley. This tradition involved many memorable moments including removing and pinning of the Fire Chief badge by spouses, collar brass pinning by past chiefs and presentation of the Fire Chief’s helmet to Chief Kelley’s sons, a traditional passing of the torch. Chief Olson was the Fire Chief for Thornton Fire Department since 2015 and was in the fire service for 40 years which he started as a career firefighter for the City of Buckley Fire Department in Washington from 1983 to 1986 and the South King Fire & Rescue (Federal Way Fire Department) in Washington from 1986 to 2015, where he was a firefighter and move up the ranks as Chief of Operations. Congratulations to Chief Olson on your retirement from all of us at 5280Fire. Additional information provided by Thornton Fire Department
