South Metro Structure Fire

On December 1st, 2024 at 11:53 South Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 4800 block of Gibraltar Lane in Arapahoe County. A heavy black plume could be seen for miles. The call was quickly upgraded to a working residential fire and additional assistance was requested from Aurora Fire Rescue. Crews were on scene over an hour extinguishing the fire, checking for extension and mopping up hot spots. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital by ambulance for evaluation and two Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies were evaluated at the scene after rescuing two children from the back yard. No other injuries were reported, however, one dog and five cats are unaccounted for. The cause of the fire is under investigation by SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office.
